Our Story:

Built by Students. Supported by the Community.

The Dawg House has existed in various forms since Hermiston High School opened, but the program began evolving into the current version of a student-managed enterprise in 2015, with the development of online stores beginning in 2023.

The support of our community makes this learning possible.

Every purchase from the Dawg House helps students gain real business experience and allows the program to continue investing in student opportunities.

Mission:

A Business Built by Students

The Dawg House is more than a school store — it is a student-managed business operated by seniors at Hermiston High School.

Each year, students who have completed courses in Business Administration, Finance, Hospitality, or Marketing apply for leadership positions in the Advanced Business Procedures (ABP) class. In this course, students manage real businesses that serve our school district and community.

Students in the program don’t just learn about business — they run one.

Vision:

Real Jobs. Real Responsibility.

Each year, 20–30 students take on management roles within The Dawg House and other student-run businesses. Students lead teams and operate the business in positions such as:

Accounting | Marketing | HR | Design | Store Manager | Online Store

These students manage products, coordinate marketing campaigns, maintain inventory, and work together to serve customers throughout the Hermiston School District.

Business Program:

A True Career & Technical Education Collaboration

The Dawg House is part of Hermiston High School’s Career and Technical Education programs, where students develop skills through hands-on learning.

While business students manage operations, the success of the Dawg House is also made possible through collaboration with other CTE programs including:

• Computer Science
• Construction
• Welding
• Engineering
• Art & Design

Students from these programs have helped design equipment, build tools, develop technology systems, and create artwork that supports the business.

Together, they demonstrate how different career pathways can work together to build something meaningful.

Profits:

Funds generated through student-run businesses are reinvested directly into student opportunities.

These funds help:
• Maintain and upgrade industry-level equipment
• Provide college scholarships
• Host etiquette and business dinners
• Provide professional attire for student managers
• Support community service events and fundraisers
• Fund educational field trips to visit and learn from other businesses

Through these experiences, students learn that education has purpose, responsibility, and real impact.
